A quick phone call from premier bike-building genius Linn Kastan follows a rough-sketch fax depicting a bike frame with two boxes in it. “It’s electric,” says Linn, “think you can make it into something?” Another quick call to best friend and uber-designer Harald Belker and we’re off. Oh, who’s this for? Soon we’re face-to-face with legendary car-man Lee Iacocca and at the start of a groundbreaking, five-year journey known as E-Bike.

[project title:] E-Bike Brochure

How to tell the story of life with an electric bicycle? No models. Real people. Real situations. Real copy. Working with Rick Bolton, we took the pragmatic road instead of perpetuating the cliche. The result was a usable book that allowed a glimpse into life with an E-Bike.

[project title:] eBike In Store

Sandbox doesn't enter contests. Our production company did. We won. Big. Best of Show for Large Floor Display or something. In any event. this is a great display that holds an E-bike, shows the video and has a "lightning" centerpiece. Voila. We won. Back to work.

[project title:] eBike Website

Remember Yahoo! Site of the Week? The pinnacle of web design in the mid 90’s? We do. Sandbox was awarded this prestigious honor when the EBIKE site was launched.

[project title:] eBike Development

What to do when you're in a pinch....call a friend. After landing E-Bike, the first call was to long time friend and uber-desinger Harald Belker. Through many iterations of "what might be", we came up with the E-Bike. The first fully enclosed, hub-motored electric bike of it's kind. It set the bar, high. Still damned proud of this and what might have been.
